Our Executive Team oversees the running and strategic direction of the Labour Party movement within North Northumberland. We’re proud to support and work for all members across the constituency, showcasing and promoting their work and commitment.

Our Role at a Glance

Oversee the running of the Constituency Party, and support and lead the delivery of projects, events and campaigns for the North Northumberland Labour Party locally, regionally, and nationally.
Manage the strategic direction of the CLP, producing an annual development plan to support this.
Ensure North Northumberland is represented on a regional and national level at Labour Party and political events.
Manage finances and spending for campaigns, our branches, and the constituency party, complying with financial rules and regulations.
Working alongside regional and national organisations to deliver for our members and the local community.
Supporting our elected officials in their roles, and highlighting their work to the local party and wider public.

Constituency Labour Party Chair

Adelina McLeod

Addy is the chair of North Northumberland Labour, and holds overall responsibility for the running of the constituency party.

About Adelina

Adelina grew up in Carlisle but settled in the North East after coming to university here in 2005. She works in the NHS as a doctor. She has held elected representative roles within the medical field with Medical Royal Colleges and with the British Medical Association. She is currently on the National BMA consultants committee, as well as chairing the Trade union at her place of work. Adelina is passionate about addressing health inequalities, and tackling social deprivation.

Adelina’s Role

Local parties depend on leadership from the CLP Chair. Other officers look to the Chair to provide support and direction, and members depend on their leadership to organise and inspire them in effective campaigns. The CLP chair facilitates meetings, decisions and ensures the CLP operates fairly.

Leading & building the strategic direction of the CLP, including producing and developing the CLP’s 12-month plan.
Supporting and encouraging an effective officer team.
Providing a warm welcome to members, and ensuring they have a stake in the direction of the CLP.
Chairing CLP meetings in a fair and open way, in accordance with Labour Party rules.
Ensuring Standing Orders are up-to-date, and ensuring compliance with Labour Party Rules.
Vice Chair, Membership & Campaigns

Vicky Oakley

Vicky is in charge of organising campaigns, in addition to engaging members, ensuring communication and support is always on hand.

About Vicky

Vicky is a current candidate for Pegswood Ward May 2025 Local Elections. She recently spearheaded the successful campaign for the election of David Smith MP as well as supporting the elections of Kim McGuinness for North East Mayor and Susan Dungworth PCC. She is also the Vice Chair of Morpeth and Pegswood Labour Branch, having only recently stepped down as chair, and chairs Pegswood Parish Council. Vicky is committed to calling out and addressing injustice, and campaigning for a better and brighter future for all.

Vicky’s Role

As CLP Vice Chair, Vicky acts as a direct liaison with our members to ensure North Northumberland CLP is an effective unit, that all members get as much as they possibly can out of their membership, and that we run a winning campaign.

Working with members and harnessing the skills of our volunteers through developing a vibrant, inclusive, outward-looking local party.
Holding a leadership role within the CLP, including standing in for the Chair when absent, and attending the Executive Committee as a voting member.
Growing an engaged local membership base through recruiting and retaining active members, and provide a welcoming and supportive environment to all members. Vicky works to ensure membership and campaigning are at the heart of all our CLP activity.
Leading Campaigns, with a campaign plan for the full cycle of local and national elections within North Northumberland.
Working closely with candidates, elected representatives, Party Officers, neighbouring CLPs and existing structures to ensure that an effective, co-ordinated campaign is delivered across Northumberland and the North Region.
Using our internal and external IT systems to contact voters, and lead campaigns.
Vice Chair

Lynda Wearn

Lynda is co-Vice Chair of the CLP, assisting in the running, organisation, and leads our members’ Policy Forum.

About Lynda

Lynda has been a member of the Labour Party for over 30 years during which time she has campaigned for representation at both local and national levels.  She has stood in local elections and she is currently an elected member of Alnwick Town Council.

Her work prior to retirement was in public health where she was lead for children and young people’s health and social equality.  She is passionate about ensuring that all people regardless of employment status, income level, gender and ethnicity have equal access to the services they need including (but not exclusively) education and health.

Lynda’s Role

Lynda leads on Policy and assists with Governance and Planning within the CLP. As policy lead, she helps to facilitate discussions around policy topics, inform members about the process of party policy formation, encourage members to take part in consultation events, and formulate policy submissions around issues that are important to them, relaying them to the Party’s National Policy Forum (NPF).

Holding a leadership role within the CLP, including standing in for the Chair when absent, and attending the Executive Committee as a voting member.
Working to build the strategic direction of the CLP, including helping to develop the CLP’s 12-month plan.
Providing a warm welcome to members, and ensuring they have a stake in the direction of the CLP.
Working with local NPF Representatives and the Policy Development Team to communicate work to members in our CLP, and supporting members to engage with the policy making process.
Keeping our members informed about current party policy consultations, procedures and strategies, as well as wider political matters, and educating members on party policy consultations and procedures.
Secretary

Jo Crumplin

Jo is our Secretary – involved with managing party administration, data and governance, and assisting in campaigns and organisation.

About Jo

Jo is a current candidate for Morpeth North in the May 2025 Local Elections. She considers herself (hopefully by now) a naturalised Northerner, having lived in the North East since 1989, and is passionate about the place, and the people.

Definitely raised with a Labour bias, she has fond memories as a child, going out canvassing with her Mum. Jo is a dedicated trade unionist, formerly as a Shop Steward for the RCN, and now currently a Representative for Usdaw, holding a position on their NEC.

Jo’s Role

Jo acts acts as our Labour Party figurehead in North Northumberland, ensuring we are a strong, vibrant, welcoming and effective unit.

Building the strategic direction of the CLP, including developing the CLP’s 12-month plan, alongside the other Officers of the Executive Committee.
Providing a warm welcome to members, and ensuring they have a stake in the direction of the CLP. Ensuring the CLP is an active, campaigning local movement where local members are encouraged to get involved as much as possible.
Establishing, maintaining and comunicating with our members and the wider public using traditional and digital systems.
Maintaining regular contact with members, communicating regarding events and meetings, and maintaining contact information. Developing a consistent communications strategy.
Ensuring our standing orders are up-to-date and comply with all relevant rules and obligations. Acting as the local party’s Information Governance lead.
Party Treasurer

Sarah Vaughan

Sarah leads on managing party finances – setting budgets for campaigns and CLP functions, and ensuring legal compliance.

About Sarah

Sarah grew up in the Midlands, but moved to Berwick upon Tweed in 2010 with her husband, after spending the previous 15 years living in the vibrant city of Edinburgh. 

She runs a small research company performing political analysis in the Horn of Africa, and has lived and worked in Ethiopia since the late 1980s, still spending around half of her time there. Whilst up in Berwick, like many others she started swimming in the sea during the pandemic, and still tries to get down to the Greenses Haven as often as possible. 

Sarah’s Role

As our Treasurer, Sarah plays a key role in every constituency, ensuring the local party complies with the party funding laws as well as helping the CLP to build the financial resources it needs to run effective campaigns by setting budgets and fundraising targets.

Keeping accurate financial records throughout the year, and providing regular reports to CLP meetings.
Producing an annual statement of accounts, and presenting this to the Party’s annual general meeting.
Identifying and checking donations and loans received/taken out by the CLP and reporting them to our head office at the end of each quarter.
Planning Budgets and Fundraising activities for the year, including managing campaign funds, day-to-day expenditure, and working together to plan exciting fundraising events for the CLP.
Working alongside other members of the CLP Executive, attending meetings and voting on CLP business.
Youth Officer & Web Development Lead

Adam Williams

Adam leads on Youth engagement across the CLP, alongside work on campaigns, digital media and web development.

About Adam

Adam is currently a Medical Student at Newcastle University, on placement across hospitals in the North East. A ‘true’ Northerner, he grew up in Morpeth, and is proud to call Northumberland his home. Adam also works for a group of local community pharmacies. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, and has recently took up running – taking on the Yorkshire Marathon and (just about) surviving to tell the tale!

Adam has been a member of the Labour Party for a number of years, and he looks forward to serving the CLP & wider community, and supporting engagement of younger people with the local party. He’s passionate about health promotion and innovation, tackling health inequalities, and empowering everyone to use their democratic voice.

Adam’s Role

Adam’s role is to welcome young members into the local Labour Party, help them feel engaged by putting on interesting events and socials, and empowering them to become active members who use their voice campaign for change in the community, and to get Labour elected. Adam also leads on digital campaigning for the CLP, assisting the party, elected representatives, and candidates to share their message across platforms and reaching out to the wider public.

Responsible for making sure that the voices of young members and constituents are heard and respected within North Northumberland CLP. Working to recruit more members under 27 into the Labour Party and helping to make sure that those members make the jump from member to activist to leader.
Providing a warm welcome to new young members of the CLP, and ensuring that members under 27 are included in all of the Party’s activities. Working to make meetings relevant and accessible to young members.
Working alongside other members of the executive committee and attending regular meetings to decide policy, support campaign efforts, discuss youth matters, and provide technical support.
Reaching out to young people through local campaigns, and working with youth organisations in the constituency to engage voters and young people, highlight issues, and get a better deal for young people. Ensuring local young people’s views are reflected in policy making locally, regionally and nationally.
Running events for young members, including training, policy development and social events, often in conjunction with Young Labour groups. Empowering others to share skills, knowledge and resources, to ensure everyone can get involved.
Women’s Officer

The Women’s Officer Role

Our Women’s Officer is the key representative of women members on the executive of the CLP, and works to ensure that women are fully involved in the work of the local party, as well as taking a leading role in making sure that the campaigning work of the constituency reaches out and engages with women voters.

Making sure that women members are included in all of the Party’s activities and that meetings are relevant and accessible to women.
Reaching out to women in the wider community through local campaigns, and working with women’s organisations in the constituency to engage women voters, highlight issues, and get a better deal for local women.
Providing a warm welcome to Women members, and ensuring they have a stake in the direction of the CLP. Working as an active member on the CLP’s executive committee, playing a key role in decision making and strategy within North Northumberland.
Running events for women members, including training, policy development and social events. Bringing women together to empower each other and gain the knowledge and skills they need get involved.
Working to recruit more women into the Labour Party and helping to make sure that women members make the jump from member to activist.
Trade Union Liaison Officer

Mark manages engagement with our trade union partners and officials, ensuring support is available across North Northumberland.

About Mark

Mark hails from Pegswood, where he is a Parish Councillor. He is also a trade union Representative of the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) at various levels.

As a long-standing party member, Mark has held various positions, and is currently North Northumberland CLP Trade Union Liaison Officer. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact him.

Mark’s Role

Mark works to strengthen the link between the affiliated trade unions and the Party at a local level. Trade unions bring the collective voices of working people to the heart of our Party – and Mark works to build these relationships within North Northumberland Labour Party.

Building strong links between the CLP and local trade unions, in order to give trade unionists an effective voice within the local Party. Encouraging affiliated trade union membership amongst party members.
Creating a network of trade unionists and acting as the first line of communication between the CLP and union contacts.
Working to increase union affiliations to the local CLP, and to maximise attendance and involvement of those affiliated unions.
Growing the joint campaigning capacity of the local Party and trade unions, working with the Vice Chair in Campaigns and Membership.
Promoting a greater understanding amongst Party members of the historic and unique link between the unions and Party.

Executive Meetings

We meet monthly to oversee the strategic direction of the North Northumberland Labour Party.

All our Executive Officers gather monthly, at a determined venue, to discuss strategy, local issues, upcoming events and how we can support our members and community locally, regionally and nationally. Generally, Branch Chairs and the constituency MP can also attend these meetings if they wish.

Transparency & Governance

Minutes are taken at every meeting, and can be provided to CLP Members upon request. We always aim to provide updates about our work and the outcomes of any decisions made, at the general monthly CLP Meeting for all members. Our Executive Committee meets early in the New Year (usually January) to reflect on our work from the previous year, and identify key areas for improvement and development. Initial targets are set, and work begins on achieving these.

Member Engagement

The CLP works with members, branches and elected representatives to identify the support they need, alongside any ideas they have to improve the local party.

Development Plan Finalised & Published

By the end of the first quarter, a meeting of the CLP Executive Committee confirms our development plan for the year. This is then published to members and branches, who can offer support.

Working Together on our Goals

The CLP Executive, Branches and members work collectively towards goals outlined in our development plan, with a target to achieve these by the start of the national Labour Party conference. Regular meetings and check-ins are held to monitor progress.

Reporting on our Work

At the CLP’s annual general meeting, the CLP development plan is reviewed and our progress published and scrutinised by members. Learning points and areas for development are taken forward, to be incorporated into the next year’s plan. This is also a celebration of our achievements throughout the year.
