Branch Functions
Our Branches are the grassroots of the Labour Party movement here in North Northumberland – where local people meet, converse, support each other, and work together for the benefit of democracy and the wider community. It would be lovely to see you at one of our branch meetings or events. Visit our branch pages to see their latest news, activities, events and more…
Monthly Branch Meetings
Our branches generally meet once per month, usually in-person, or occasionally using online formats. A varied agenda is set each month – updates from local representatives, campaign planning, topical discussion, volunteering opportunities, and more are often on the cards.
New Members Welcome

If you’d like more information on the formalities, or a friendly face for your first meeting, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d be really happy to buddy you up, and introduce you to the wonderful world of local politics.
Events & Fundraising
Our branches often hold local fundraising evenings, to raise funds for our campaigns and activities, and to engage with our community.
Whether it’s a pie and pea supper, a guest speaker, bake sales, or quiz nights – there’s always something in the calendar to look forward to with us. Why not get involved and run your own event with us? Find our events at each branch via the buttons below.

Influence Policy
With 8 weeks of continuous membership, members can vote on policy matters at a Branch and CLP level. We discuss and vote on matters such as those outlined below…
Branch Roles
Give even more back to your local Labour Party. Members with over 8 weeks of continuous membership can put themselves forward to fulfil officer roles within our Branches, subject to vacancies. These roles are typically voted on at the Annual General Branch Meeting. Click the titles below to find out more.
Branch Chair
Branch Chair is a varied and exciting role – you get to lead and build the strategic direction of the branch within the CLP. You’ll also be responsible for supporting and leading the Branch team, and working together to provide a warm welcome to members, ensuring they have a say in the direction of the branch. You will also need to Chair Branch meetings in a fair and open way, in accordance with the Labour Party rules, and lead in implementing a 12-month development plan for your branch.
Branch Chairs may also attend our CLP Executive Meetings, if they wish, and will work with and report to the CLP Executive regarding the local branch and area.
Branch Vice-Chair
Our Branch Vice-Chairs assist the Branch Secretary and Chair in their duties as Executive Officers, and are also primarily responsible for leading Branch Campaigns and Events. This involves identifying local priorities, target setting, organising the branch response to these issues, and mobilising members to assist in campaigning. Events may also involve fundraising, or more informal gatherings, to promote the Branch in the local community.
Branch Secretary
The Branch Secretary role is the cornerstone of our organisation at a grassroots level. Responsibilities include organising regular branch meetings and emailing members about local activity, and maintaining accurate contact details for members and providing membership information to other officers as required. You’ll also be working to ensure your branch is welcoming and friendly to new people, well organised and an open and fair place where members feel involved and have a stake in the direction of the branch. It is also important to contribute in developing a strong and consistent communication strategy, making sure that all your members are well informed on party activity.
Branch Treasurer
The Branch Treasurer ensures the branch has the funds it needs as well as helping the CLP to build the financial resources it needs to run effective campaigns by setting budgets and fundraising targets.
Branch Treasurers will work closely with, and report to the CLP Treasurer, to ensure accurate recordkeeping, good governance, and compliance with relevant laws and statutes.
Branch Women’s Officer
As Women’s Officer, you are a representative of women members in the Branch, working to ensure that women are fully involved in the work of the local party, as well as taking a leading role in making sure that the campaigning work of the branch reaches out and engages with women voters. You’ll work closely with the CLP Women’s Officer and any Women’s branch in the area.
