About North Northumberland Labour Party

Please use the information below to inform any articles or news items, as necessary. For verification, please contact our spokespeople as outlined above.

North Northumberland Labour Party is the voice of the Labour Party across the North Northumberland Westminster Constituency. We represent hundreds of Labour Members from Berwick upon Tweed in the North, all the way to Morpeth in our South. Our vibrant community includes three active Branches in Alnwick, Berwick and Morpeth, acting as the grassroots of the Labour movement in North Northumberland.

Our Constituency Party took its current form in 2024, after the latest Westminster Boundary Review reformed the constituency of Berwick upon Tweed, incorporating the town of Morpeth, and adopting the name of North Northumberland.

The local party is governed by an elected Executive Committee, with terms of three years. Roles include the Chair, two Vice Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer, Youth Officer, Women’s Officer & Trade Union Liaison Officer. The key function is to oversee the day-to-day running of the party, set budgets, organise and support campaigns, and support the Branches in any way possible.

Our CLP and Branches actively run meetings, events, fundraisers, and effect local action in our communities. We also participate in local and national forums, conferences and campaigns.

The party went from strength to strength in 2024, with the election of North Northumberland’s first ever Labour MP, David Smith, with a majority of 5,067 votes. Prior to Parliament, David worked within the charity sector in the North East, most recently leading a homelessness charity. Our party is now focused on delivering for all residents of North Northumberland, and on campaigning for change locally in the 2025 County Council Elections.
